In trying to access AppData for the main user I managed to hide the Users folder so none of it shows at all (!!???). Then tried to unhide it by selecting Show Hidden Files and Folders, View option, but with no success. My other, older HDD running Vista clearly shows the Win7 Users folder and all its content.
Also (as a result no doubt) now the Libraries and Favorites folders don't show their contents either.
Is there a fix that doesn't call for a restore point (doesn't work) or restoring a backup or image file (I don't have either). Help!!!!!!!!!!!:(

Solution
It seems like you are facing issues with hiding the Users folder on your primary drive and as a result, your Libraries, Favorites, and other folders do not display their contents. Here are some steps you can try to fix this without resorting to restoring from a backup or using a restore point:

Step 1: Show Hidden Files and Folders

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Go to the View tab at the top.
  3. Check the Hidden items box to display hidden files, folders, and drives.

Step 2: Reset Folder View Settings

  4. Navigate to the Users folder on the main drive.
  5. Right-click on an empty space within the folder.
  6. Select Properties.
  7. Go to the Customize tab.
  8. In the Optimize this folder...

  8. In the Optimize this folder for dropdown, choose General Items.
  9. Check the Also apply this template to all subfolders box.
  10. Click Apply and then OK to save the changes.

Step 3: Ensure the Folder is Not Marked as Hidden

  11. Right-click on the main drive (usually C:) where the Users folder is located.
  12. Select Properties.
  13. Uncheck the Hidden box to ensure that the drive is not marked as hidden.
  14. Click Apply and then OK.

    Step 4: Check Folder Permissions

  15. Right-click on the Users folder.
  16. Select Properties.
  17. Go to the Security tab.
  18. Make sure your user account has the necessary permissions to access the folder.

Step 5: Restart File Explorer

Sometimes, a simple restart of File Explorer can help resolve display issues.

Additional Tip:

If you still can't see the folders or their contents, you can try creating a new user profile and seeing if the issue persists there. After trying these steps, let me know if the issue persists or if you encounter any errors.
