While troubleshooting a misbehaving USB port on my Toshiba Satellite Windows 10 laptop, I installed the USBview utility for the first time ever. The port magically came back to life but I am curious: my laptop has 3 USB ports (2 of USB2.0 ,one of USB3.0) but the USBview screen shows seven USB ports. Why is this?

An image from 'USBview shows more ports than exist. Why?'. USB device tree showing connected and unconnected devices, including a Yamaha Steinberg USB Audio.

I only see 3. The USB hubs are the physical ports. USB technology itself can allow up to 127 devices daisy chained together via USB hubs (physical).
