Windows 10 Using Ethernet at a Motel: Ensuring Business Security on a Chromebook

I am at a motel and instead of WI FI I am using an Ethernet cable. I have my wife's Chromebook and wanted to know if I can do business with relative security?

If you're doing anything even a little sensitive I would be doing it on a VPN. Many publicly accessible networks are trivial to perform man in the middle type attacks.
