i have a sony vaio laptop, it worked fine for 2 months then suddenly it stopped recognizing the built-in keyboard and touchpad.

in bios it works fine and when the cpu is in sleep mode the keyboard works and brings it out of sleep mode.

the hardware diagnostic says it is working and the driver is up 2 date

when the cpu boots up you can turn CAPS on and when vista loads it turns the keyboard off

Solution
It seems like you're dealing with a peculiar issue on your Sony Vaio laptop where the built-in keyboard and touchpad stop working after the system boots into Windows Vista. Let's troubleshoot this problem step by step:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Boot into Safe Mode:
    • Restart your laptop and press the F8 key repeatedly as it boots up to access the Advanced Boot Options menu.
    • Choose "Safe Mode" and see if the keyboard and touchpad work in Safe Mode. This helps determine if the issue is related to any third-party software conflicting with the drivers.
    []Check Device Manager:
    • Right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Manage."
    • Go to "Device Manager" and expand the "Keyboards" and "Mice...

    • Go to "Device Manager" and expand the "Keyboards" and "Mice and other pointing devices" sections.
    • Check if there are any warning icons (yellow triangles) next to your keyboard and touchpad devices. If there are, it indicates a driver issue.

    ]Update or Roll Back Drivers:
    • Even if the diagnostics indicate the drivers are up to date, sometimes a reinstallation or rollback can resolve driver conflicts.
    • Right-click on each device in Device Manager, select "Properties," and then choose to update the driver or roll back to a previous version.
    []System Restore:
    • Consider performing a System Restore to a point before the issue started occurring. This can help revert any recent changes that might have caused the problem.
    [
    ]BIOS Update:
    • Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop model on the Sony support website. Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve hardware compatibility issues.
    []External Keyboard and Mouse:
    • As a temporary solution, you can use an external USB keyboard and mouse to navigate the system.
    [
    ]Malware Scan:
    • Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to rule out any malware causing the issue.
    []System File Checker:
    • Open a command prompt as an administrator and run the command sfc /scannow to check for and repair corrupted system files.
    [
    ]Windows Updates:
    • Ensure that your Windows Vista is up to date by installing all available updates from Windows Update.
  2. Check Startup Programs:
    • Use tools like MSConfig to disable unnecessary startup programs that might be causing conflicts.

      Update and Additional Assistance:

Given that the issue is specific to when Windows Vista loads, further troubleshooting might be needed. If these steps do not resolve the problem, it could be helpful to seek assistance from Sony support or a professional technician to diagnose the issue further.
