Hi,

Sorry if this has been covered before, my searches didn't turn up much yet. I have Vista Home Premium x64 on my notebook, and have pre-ordered the Windows 7 Pro upgrade. My question is whether or not anyone knows if the upgrade will include x64 version disks, and if I will be able to perform a simple upgrade, or require a clean install? If it requires a clean install, will the upgrade disks be sufficient?

I hope this isn't too simple a question for this forum, but appreciate any guidance I can get.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

Hi Kevin, Your question is certainly valid, and I'm here to provide you with the information you need. When upgrading from Windows Vista Home Premium x64 to Windows 7 Pro, the type of upgrade and the version of Windows 7 you receive can vary. Here are some insights:
  1. Upgrade Type:
    • Windows 7 can typically be upgraded from a previous version of Windows without the need for a clean install. However, the specific upgrade path and options can depend on the version of Vista you have and the version of Windows 7 you are upgrading to.
    []Version of Windows 7:
    • When you pre-ordered the Windows 7 Pro upgrade, it's essential to confirm what version you will receive. The upgrade edition you bought will determine whether you get the x64 (64-bit) version or the x86 (32-bit) version of Windows 7 Pro.

    ]Upgrade Process:
    • If it's a direct upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium x64 to Windows 7 Pro, you should be able to perform the upgrade without needing a clean install. The upgrade disks should contain the necessary files and instructions to facilitate the upgrade process. To summarize:
      • Check the version of Windows 7 Pro you pre-ordered to ensure it matches your system's architecture (64-bit).
      • If it's a direct upgrade, you should be able to perform it without a clean install using the upgrade disks provided.
If you encounter any specific issues during the upgrade process or need further assistance, feel free to ask!
