I'm getting these messages about signing up for it, but it doesn't really tell you much about what it is or who is pushing itl.
I'm very security conscious.

I don't automatically install everything that comes along.

Drop Box Dash is an online file storage and sharing service that allows you to store, access, and share your files across multiple devices. It is a convenient way to store your documents, photos, videos, and other files in the cloud, allowing you to access them from anywhere with an internet connection.

Drop Box Dash is promoted as a seamless solution for file management, offering features such as automatic synchronization, easy sharing, and collaboration. It allows you to share files with others by generating links, sending invitation emails, or providing access to specific folders.

However, since you mentioned being security conscious, it is essential to pay attention to the security practices and settings associated with any cloud storage service. Here are a few points to consider:

1. Encryption: Drop Box Dash encrypts your files both during transfer (using SSL/TLS) and at rest (while stored on their servers). This helps protect your data from interception and unauthorized access. However, it's worth noting that the encryption keys are managed by Drop Box Dash, meaning they have access to your files if necessary. For enhanced security, you can encrypt your files locally before uploading them to Drop Box Dash.

2. Privacy and Data Handling: It is crucial to review the privacy policy and terms of service for any cloud storage service. Ensure that you understand how your data is handled, who has access to it, and under what circumstances they may disclose it. Drop Box Dash claims to prioritize user privacy and provides various customizable privacy settings.

3. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Enable two-factor authentication on your Drop Box Dash account to add an extra layer of security. This feature requires you to provide a second form of verification, such as a code sent to your mobile device, in addition to your password.

4. Device and Account Security: Ensure that your devices (computers, smartphones, etc.) have up-to-date security software and that your Drop Box Dash account has a strong, unique password. Use a password manager to help generate and manage complex passwords.

5. Regular Backups: While Drop Box Dash offers file version history and recovery options, it's always a good practice to have backups of your important files stored locally or using alternative backup solutions.

Regarding the messages you are receiving about signing up, it is important to verify their legitimacy. Phishing attempts are common, so always be cautious when sharing personal information or clicking on suspicious links. It's recommended to directly visit the official Drop Box Dash website or contact their support for accurate information about their services.

Ultimately, the decision to use Drop Box Dash or any other cloud storage service lies on your comfort level with their security practices and your specific requirements. It's always a good idea to research, compare different options, and read user reviews before committing to a particular service.
