WhatsApp iOS 26.27.74 Adds Mic Mode Shortcut for Voice Isolation

WhatsApp is rolling out an iPhone call-screen shortcut for Apple’s Mic Mode controls, bringing Voice Isolation, Wide Spectrum, Standard, and Automatic processing into the app’s active-call interface. The change is appearing in WhatsApp for iOS version 26.27.74, according to WABetaInfo reporting carried by Beebom and iGeeksBlog, but it is a phased rollout rather than an immediate switch for every account.
Until now, iPhone users generally had to open Control Center during a WhatsApp voice or video call, select the app’s call controls, and then change the microphone processing mode. The new route places a Mic Mode entry under WhatsApp’s More button during a call. Tapping it opens Apple’s native control rather than a WhatsApp-built audio settings panel.

Apple controls, surfaced by WhatsApp​

The four options are Apple’s existing per-app microphone modes:

• Standard uses normal voice processing.
• Voice Isolation prioritizes speech and suppresses surrounding noise.
• Wide Spectrum leaves ambient audio unfiltered, useful when the caller wants others to hear a room rather than just the speaker.
• Automatic lets iOS choose a mode based on call conditions; Apple says it typically uses Voice Isolation with the receiver and Standard on speakerphone.

This is not a new WhatsApp noise-reduction engine. The app is exposing the system-level controls that iOS already makes available to supported calling and recording apps. That matters because behavior, compatibility, and processing quality remain governed by Apple’s audio stack, not by a separate Meta setting.
Apple says Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum require iOS 15 or later, and are supported on iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and newer iPhones. Automatic Mic Mode requires iOS 18 or later. Availability can also depend on the active app and call type.

Settings should stick to WhatsApp​

Apple’s support documentation says Mic Mode selections persist for the individual app until the user changes them. In practice, choosing Voice Isolation during a WhatsApp call should make it the default for later WhatsApp calls, while leaving the Mic Mode configuration of FaceTime, Teams, or other supported apps untouched.
For users who regularly take calls from noisy offices, cars, or shared homes, the shortcut removes several taps and avoids the less-obvious Control Center path. Wide Spectrum is the opposite use case: it can be preferable for group calls, music, demonstrations, or situations where background sound is intentional.
The practical limitation is rollout timing: iPhone users should update WhatsApp to version 26.27.74, then check the More menu during an active voice or video call for the new Mic Mode option.
