I keep getting messages from MSoft saying upgrade to WIN 11.
How can I know if my current software progs will still function?
eg I am still using MSOffice 13/MSMoney/ACT2000 among many others.

Solution
When considering an upgrade to Windows 11, software compatibility is a key concern, especially when you're using older programs like MS Office 2013, MS Money, or ACT! 2000.
Here's a breakdown:

1. Microsoft Office 2013

  • Compatibility: Supported with Windows 11.
  • Microsoft has not flagged Office 2013 as incompatible with Windows 11, but this version has reached the end of support in April 2023. Features might work fine for now, but security updates or fixes won't be provided anymore.
  • Recommendation: If Office 2013 is critical for your workflow, ensure it runs smoothly during the upgrade. Otherwise, consider transitioning to a newer version of Office (Office 2021 or Microsoft 365).

2. Microsoft Money

  • Compatibility: Tricky, as MS Money was discontinued years ago.
  • Older versions of MS Money can run on Windows 11 with some tweaks but might require running in compatibility mode for Windows XP or Windows 7. This can be set under the program's properties.
  • Known Issues: .NET dependencies or database-access features might cause errors. Installing patched versions like "MS Money Plus Sunset Edition" can improve compatibility.

3. ACT! 2000

  • Compatibility: Highly unlikely to work natively on Windows 11.
  • ACT! 2000 is a CRM program from over two decades ago, making it extremely difficult to operate in modern environments. It may require:
    • Virtualization (e.g., using Hyper-V or third-party tools like VirtualBox to run an older Windows OS like Windows XP/7 in a virtual machine).
    • Compatibility mode, though success with software this old is uncertain.
  • Alternative: Check if there's an option to export ACT! data and import it into a more modern or supported CRM.

4. General Recommendations for Other Applications

  • Use Microsoft's PC Health Check Tool to verify core system compatibility for Windows 11. This tool doesn’t check software but ensures your hardware meets Windows 11’s requirements.
  • If other programs are in question, visit their developer sites or run them in compatibility mode as needed.

5. Testing Before Fully Upgrading

Set up a dual boot or use virtual machines to trial Windows 11 alongside your current OS. This allows you to verify whether older software functions without committing fully to the upgrade.
Finally, keep software backups ready in case something argues back! If you’re adventurous, create a system image of your current setup so you can easily roll back if needed. Let me know how this plan sounds or if you want step-by-step guidance for specific apps!
