I just installed a new desktop ( see specs below). I'm having to use a wireless USB adapter from NetGear to connect to my router. My problem is when it receives packets, during downloads and a few other occasions I get a static/distortion through my speakers. It has the current drivers and I see no issues with the connections. Note: It plays CD's etc fine, even though you can make out the noise sometimes during. Thanks for any help.

System Specs:

AMD Athlon II X2 220
3GB Mem.
1 TB HD
Win 7
Realtek Audio

Solution
It seems like you're experiencing interference between your USB wireless adapter and your speakers, leading to static and distortion. This issue is quite common, especially when both devices are in close proximity. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this problem: 1. Physical Separation: Try to physically separate the USB wireless adapter from your speakers. Keep them as far apart as possible to reduce interference. 2. Change USB Port: Switch the USB port where the wireless adapter is connected. Sometimes, changing the port can help alleviate interference. 3. Use Shielded USB Cable: If possible, use a shielded USB extension cable to move the adapter further away from the speakers. 4. Update USB Adapter...

Update USB Adapter Drivers: Make sure you have the latest drivers for your USB wireless adapter installed. Sometimes, driver updates can address interference issues. 5. Update Audio Drivers: Ensure that your Realtek audio drivers are up-to-date. You can download the latest drivers from the Realtek website or through Windows Update. 6. Power Management: Check the power management settings for both the USB adapter and audio device. Disable power-saving settings that may be causing interruptions. 7. Signal Interference: Look for any other devices that could be causing interference, such as cordless phones or other wireless devices. Try moving these away from your setup. 8. Grounding: Ensure that all your devices are properly grounded to avoid electrical interference. 9. Sound Card: If the issue persists, you may consider getting a dedicated sound card that is shielded against interference. By following these steps, you should be able to minimize or eliminate the static and distortion caused by the interference between your USB wireless adapter and speakers.
