1. You can fix the media player database cache:

2. You can use a utility fix:

Stupid question, but I'm assuming you've tried to delete it by right clicking?

From one of zvit's links:

I do not seem to have that indicator, but I found this under the organize menu.

I don't understand if the problem was resolved. Did you delete and refresh the database?
That indicator... what about it? Did it help? If you un-check the recent 5, does that help?

If you are using MP v12, can try to downgrade to V11 and see if the problem goes away. Then you can re-upgrade to v12.
How To Uninstall Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7?

ATTN: The above post about downgrading to Windows Media Player 11 is ONLY compatible with 32-bit versions of Windows 7.
I'd also not recommend it.

Here's downgrading for x32 and x64 (different methods for each on page):

But If Mitchell doesn't recommend it, try to just uninstall it and then reinstall it:
There is chance that user may need to uninstall, remove and then re-install Windows Media Player 12, such as to fix WMP corruption, or to reset and re-configure Windows Media Player. Link Removed - Not Found
