Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26200.5742 (KB5064075) to the Dev Channel, introducing a series of enhancements aimed at improving user experience and system functionality.

Redesigned Mobile Device Companion in Start Menu

The Start menu now features an updated layout for the mobile device companion, allowing users to scroll through recent activities such as messages, calls, photos, and app updates directly from their mobile devices. This redesign enhances accessibility and streamlines the integration between Windows 11 and mobile platforms.

Migration of Time and Language Settings to Settings App

In an effort to consolidate system configurations, several time and language settings have been moved from the Control Panel to the Settings app:
  • Additional Clocks: Users can add extra clocks via Settings > Time & language > Date & time under the "Show time and date in the system tray" section.
  • Time Server Configuration: The option to change the time server is now available under "Additional settings" in the Date & time section.
  • Date and Time Formatting: Formatting settings, including the ability to change the AM/PM symbol, have been relocated to Settings > Time & language > Date & time.
  • Number and Currency Format: Users can adjust these settings under the "Region" section in Settings > Time & language > Language & region.
  • Unicode UTF-8 Support: A toggle to enable Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support is now available under the "Language" section in Language & region settings.
  • Copy Language and Region Settings: Options to copy current user language and region settings to the welcome screen, system account, and new user accounts are accessible under "Additional settings" in Language & region.

Updated Dialogs for Consistency

The build includes updates to various system dialogs to align with Windows 11's visual aesthetics, including the dialog that appears when an application cannot open.

Performance Improvements in File Explorer

Enhancements have been made to File Explorer to improve performance, particularly in launching cloud files and loading context menus, resulting in a more responsive user experience.

Fixes and Known Issues

This build addresses several issues:
  • File Explorer: Resolved icon mirroring issues for right-to-left languages, tooltip persistence, tab duplication flashes, desktop icon scaling overlaps, and improved Narrator announcements.
  • Start Menu: Fixed excessive alphabetical categories with blank icons and corrected Visual Studio’s category placement.
  • Task Manager: Addressed freezing in the performance section and improved accessibility with better contrast, field sizing, and focus handling in dialogs.
  • Input: Fixed Input Method Editor (IME) issues causing dropped characters after copy-paste and restored functionality for older versions of Changjie, Bopomoji, and Japanese IMEs on the touch keyboard.
  • Settings: Resolved crashes when adding a security key under sign-in options.
  • Other: Fixed crashes related to dao360.dll and resolved SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION bugchecks affecting some Insiders.
Known issues include potential rollback errors (0x80070005) during updates, Visual Studio crashes on Arm64 devices due to Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) issues, and interface bugs such as a temporarily smaller Start menu layout and missing pinned apps in the Taskbar.
This release reflects Microsoft's ongoing commitment to refining Windows 11 by integrating user feedback and enhancing system performance and usability.
