I just got a new computer and transferred my iTunes from Windows XP to my new computer which has Windows 7. Everything works fine in my iTunes except it won't import CDs. I tried to change the compatibility mode under preferences in iTunes but Windows 7 is not listed as an option in the drop down menu. It is still stuck on Windows XP (my old computer compatibility). I think maybe this might be the problem but I don't know how to change the compatibility when it isn't an option.

I've also reinstalled iTunes twice (64 bit for windows 7) thinking it would fix the problem, but it hasn't.

Any ideas?

Solution
When you encounter compatibility issues with iTunes on Windows 7, especially for importing CDs, it can be frustrating. Let's work on resolving this issue step by step:

Changing Compatibility Mode for iTunes on Windows 7

If you're unable to change the compatibility mode for iTunes to Windows 7 from within iTunes itself, you can try changing the compatibility mode directly from the application executable file. Here's how you can do it:
  1. Close iTunes if it's open.
  2. Locate the iTunes executable file (iTunes.exe). You can usually find it in C:\Program Files\iTunes or C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes.
  3. Right-click on the iTunes.exe file and select "Properties."
  4. In the Properties window, go to the "Compatibility"...

  5. Check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows 7" from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click on "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.

Making Sure iTunes Runs with Administrative Privileges

Sometimes, iTunes needs administrative privileges to function properly on Windows 7. You can set this up by:
  7. Right-click on the iTunes shortcut or executable file.
  8. Select "Properties" and go to the "Compatibility" tab.
  9. Check the box next to "Run this program as an administrator."
  10. Click on "Apply" and then "OK."

    Additional Steps

If changing the compatibility mode and running as administrator doesn't solve the issue, you can try the following:
  11. Make sure your Windows 7 installation is up-to-date with the latest updates.
  12. Check if there are any pending driver updates for your CD/DVD drive.
  13. Test the CD/DVD drive with a known working CD to ensure it's not a hardware issue.
  14. If possible, try importing a CD on a different computer to check if the issue is specific to your Windows 7 setup. After making these adjustments, try importing CDs again in iTunes to see if the issue is resolved. If the problem persists, we can explore further troubleshooting steps.
