I have just installed a 250GB ssd for my OS, progs and a relatively small My Documents. I'm storing Pictures and Videos data on a 1TB internal disk and I have redirected My Videos and My Pictures to that drive. I'm backing up to an external 1 TB disk, but backup doesn't complete.

Properties shows 94 GB of the ssd used, leaving 137 GB free, and 358 GB of the data hdd used, with 573 GB free. So what gives and how do I get a system backup? I have tried with My VIdeos and My Pictures folder locations restored to the default user folders which are empty and I get the same result..

I'm including the disk manager report.

Solution
It seems like you are facing issues with your system backup not completing successfully despite having sufficient free space on your drives. The screenshots you provided indicate that there is ample space available on both your SSD and internal data HDD. However, the backup is not completing as expected. Here are some troubleshooting steps and potential solutions to help resolve the backup issue: 1. Check Backup Settings: - Verify the settings of your backup software to ensure that it is not running into any conflicts or limitations. - Ensure that the backup destination (external 1TB disk) is properly configured and accessible. 2. Check for Errors: - Look for any error messages or logs related to the backup process. This can...

This can provide valuable insights into why the backup is failing. - Check the Event Viewer for any relevant error or warning messages that might indicate the cause of the backup failure. 3. Run System File Checker (SFC): - Running the SFC tool can help identify and repair corrupted system files that might be affecting the backup process. - Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command: sfc /scannow. 4. Disk Cleanup: - Perform a disk cleanup on both your SSD and internal data HDD to remove temporary files and unnecessary data that may be hindering the backup process. - This can be done by right-clicking on the drive, selecting Properties, and then clicking on the Disk Cleanup button. 5. Check for File System Errors: - Run a Check Disk (CHKDSK) scan on your drives to detect and repair file system errors that could be causing the backup to fail. - Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command: chkdsk /f /r, then restart your computer to allow the scan to run. 6. Alternative Backup Solutions: - If the backup continues to fail, consider using alternative backup software or methods to create a system backup. - Windows includes built-in backup tools like File History or System Image Backup that can be utilized as alternatives. 7. Update Backup Software: - Ensure that your backup software is up to date. Updating to the latest version may resolve any compatibility issues that could be causing the backup failure. By following these steps, you can troubleshoot the backup issue and hopefully create a successful system backup. If the problem persists, it might be necessary to seek further assistance or consider alternative backup solutions.
