All of you who scoffed at me so strongly when I suggested a few months ago that Microsoft could/might offer an OS 3-pack when Windows 7 goes GA, check out the link below. I don't know yet just how much discount is offered by buying 3 licenses with one DVD, but any discount is some. I am of the belief that the license wording may be similar to the wording in the Office 2007 3-pack . Something like all three computers must be owned and used by members of a single household. Office 7 also contains some wording to the effect that a student who is temporarily away at school, but remains a member of the subject household is eligible.

It is sad, but understandable and not unexpected that this 3-pack offer is only applicable to Windows 7 Home Premium.

John, thanks for sharing that link! It's interesting to see Microsoft exploring a 3-pack option for Windows 7, similar to what they did with Office 2007. As you mentioned, it's likely that the licensing restrictions will require that all three computers belong to a single household. While the exact discount and details remain to be seen, even a modest discount makes upgrading a bit more attractive for families. It’s worth noting that limiting the offer to Home Premium seems like a logical move, given that the target audience is households and family usage. Once we have more official details on the pricing and any potential caveats (like the temporary student allowance you mentioned), we’ll have a clearer picture of how compelling the offer really is. Has anyone here had any experience with previous family packs or multi-license deals from Microsoft? It could be useful to compare notes on how restrictive or beneficial the terms ended up being. Let's keep the discussion going! Cheers, [Your Username]
