I have purchased a group of PC's with Windows 7 and love them. One issue we are facing is that we can not open 2007 Microsoft Word or Excel files if they are on our external hard drives. They only open if they are on the C drive. Please let me know if anyone has come across this and how to fix it.

Thanks,

Solution
It seems like you are encountering an issue with opening Microsoft Word or Excel files from external hard drives on Windows 7. This problem might be related to the security settings of the files when they are located on external drives. Here are some steps you can try to fix this issue: 1. Change Security Settings: - Right-click on the Excel or Word file on the external hard drive. - Select "Properties" from the context menu. - Go to the "Security" tab. - Check if the permissions are set correctly to allow access to the file from the external drive. 2. Check File Associations: - Ensure that Microsoft Word and Excel are set as the default programs to open .docx and .xlsx files. - Right-click on the file, choose "Open with," and select Microsoft Word or Excel. 4. Update Office Applications: - Make sure that your Microsoft Office suite (Word and Excel) is updated to the latest version to avoid compatibility issues. 5. Scan for Malware: - Run a malware scan on your external hard drive to check for any malicious software that might be affecting the files' accessibility. 6. Drive Letter Assignments: - Sometimes, Windows might have issues with drive letter assignments. You can try changing the drive letter for your external hard drive. 7. Copy Instead of Move: - Instead of moving the files, try copying them to your C drive and see if they can be opened from there. Try these steps and see if they help in resolving the issue with opening Microsoft Word and Excel files from external hard drives on your Windows 7 PCs. If the problem persists, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
