Loaded Windows 7 on an IBM T42 laptop.
With a little work I was able to get "most" things working properly.

The things I can't get to work:

  • Trying to run WMV files on Media Player locks the system down hard. (have to take battery out to shut off)
  • Trying to run any game that came with Windows (like hearts or solitare) locks the system down hard.
  • When I try to run the program that ranks the system performance of my machine it locks the system down hard.
If anyone has any suggestions on these problems, let me know.

I was able to install Office XP and everything on it works fine.
I was able to install Nero and it appears to work fine.
AVG free works fine.
Firefox works fine.

Look for drivers specifically designed for Windows 7 for the ATI Radeon graphics in the T42. - Try using an alternative media player like VLC Media Player to see if you encounter the same issues with WMV files. This will help determine if the problem is related to Windows Media Player. 2. Game and System Performance Issues: - Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements for the built-in games and the Windows system performance rating tool. - Update your DirectX drivers to the latest version...

System Stability: - Run a system file check to scan and repair corrupted system files. Open a command prompt as an administrator and run sfc /scannow. - Check for any Windows updates that might include critical fixes or driver updates for your system. 4. Compatibility Mode: - Try running problematic applications or games in compatibility mode. Right-click on the application's shortcut, go to Properties, and under the Compatibility tab, enable compatibility mode for the appropriate version of Windows. 5.
