Windows 7 Windows 7 Volume Mixer Mutes Google Chrome

I suddenly ran into a problem last night with sound. At first, VLC wouldn't produce any sound, although I later solved that by simply realizing it had somehow become muted in the Windows 7 volume mixer. Shortly after that, Chrome's sound also stopped working. It, too, was muted in the volume mixer, only the problem is that if I unmute it, the sound will work for a fraction of a second and it will then be muted again. Sliding the volume up and down will cause it to work, but as soon as I stop for a moment, it mutes itself again.

I'm on Windows 7 64-bit and I'm running the latest version of Chrome (8.0.552.215), although I tried reinstalling Chrome to see if that would help, to no avail. Sound works in other browsers just fine.
