Having gone through the process four times (2 x upgrade and 2 x clean install) of the OEM Ulimate Disk, the message "the upgrade (or install) was unsuccessful and your original windows is being reinstalled". Upgrade advisor tells me that my system is compatable - any similar problems that others have resolved?

Experiencing issues during Windows upgrades or clean installs can be frustrating, especially when you receive a message indicating that the process was unsuccessful. Here are some steps and potential solutions to address this problem: 1. Ensure System Compatibility: - As you mentioned, the Upgrade Advisor deemed your system compatible. However, double-check the hardware requirements for the version of Windows you are trying to install. Make sure your system meets or exceeds the minimum requirements. 2. Check Installation Media: - If you are using a physical disk, ensure it is clean and not scratched. If you are using a USB drive, make sure it is not corrupted. Try creating a new installation media to rule out any issues with the current one. 3. Update Drivers: - Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause installation failures. Update your drivers, especially graphics and chipset drivers, to the latest versions before attempting the installation. 4. Disconnect External Devices: - Sometimes, external devices like printers, scanners, or USB drives can interfere with the installation process. Disconnect all non-essential devices before starting the installation. 5. Disable Antivirus and Security Software: - Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus or security software during the installation process. Some security software can block essential installation processes. 6. Perform a Clean Boot: - Performing a clean boot before starting the installation can help eliminate software conflicts that might be causing the installation to fail. Follow these steps: 1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter. 2. In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all. 3. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items. 4. Close Task Manager and click OK in the System Configuration window. 5. Restart your computer and try the installation again. 7. Perform a System File Check: - Run a system file check to scan and repair corrupted system files. Open a Command Prompt as an administrator and type sfc /scannow. Allow the scan to complete. 8. Contact Microsoft Support: - If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider contacting Microsoft Support for further assistance. They may have specific solutions based on the error message you receive during the installation process. These steps should help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue you are facing with the unsuccessful Windows installation or upgrade. Let me know if you need further assistance or encounter any specific error messages during the process.
