I'm reviving an old Toshiba Satellite with Windows 10 32 bit and see the following under Update & Security:

An image from 'Windows updates don't seem to install'. Windows Update warning shows device lacks important security and quality fixes.

I click, see that Windows is looking for updates, and then nothing happens. It just goes back to this message. My internet connection is fast, there is no other reason that updates would not download and install. Does it have something to do with the 32 bit OS?

You can try resetting your update cache.
  • Open services.msc
  • Stop "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" if it's running
  • Stop "Windows Update"
  • In the file explorer navigate to C:\Windows and remove the SoftwareDistribution directory
  • Restart "Windows Update" service
  • Check for updates again

32-bit OS shouldn't have anything to do with it. We have had similar issues with a computer that didn't have enough free drive space to update. If resetting your update cache doesn't work, a lack of available drive space may be the problem.

Guys thanks for the superior information you shared.
