📎 AI Summary:
The thread discusses a display issue where everything appears larger and wider on the screen. The original poster tried adjusting resolution settings and using Ctrl + mouse wheel for zoom, but persistent scaling problems remained until they used System Restore to undo recent updates, restoring normal display. The main insight is that the incorrect resolution setting (likely too small) caused the display issues, and correcting it resolved the problem, allowing for further updates.

Everything was wider and bigger on the screen. I thought the resolution somehow changed but I changed that back to what I thought was the original 1366 x 738 and everything is not wide any more but everything is still large. The setting for "Change the size of text, apps..." is at 100% but everything is still big.

I did this and all the icons on the desktop shrunk but the toolbar at the top of the page and all the other windows remained large.

Are you sure of the 1366 x 738?
Which laptop/monitor are you using?

Which one of the many models
(I think I will try to get some help from the specs, you never knows)

I nuked the latest Windows updates with System Restore and everything is back to normal. Should have done that in the first place.

Now you are back to normal I am wondering is it still on 1366 x 738 resolution or have you got something else?

B.t.w. I would not feel happy if I could not update, it would mean end-of-life for that laptop....

I think so, this is exactly what you expect to see when you select a too small resolution.
Now you should be able to update!

Thanks for letting us know.
