📎 AI Summary:
The user initially asked how to boot a Windows 10 hard drive from a broken computer on a Windows 8.1 system. A responder suggested changing BIOS settings to boot from the drive but warned that Windows activation might fail because the product key is typically tied to the original motherboard. The original poster tried this approach but was unsuccessful.

I have a hard drive with Windows 10 on it that came off of a broken computer and I am trying to boot it on a Windows 8.1 pc. How can I go about doing this?

Solution
If you install the drive, then boot into the bios and select the new drive as first boot device it should work.
BUT. You may not be able to register it with mocrosoft as win x key usually gets fixed to the mother board it was installed to if that makes sense.
