Hi, I have installed Professional but the key I purchased is a dud. It was a MAC key but when I types it in it turns out it has already been used. I had no luck getting a valid one from the seller.

It turns out I only really need Home Premium. If I buy a Home Premium one and authorize with that will it work.

The reason I don't want to reinstall is I am using Bootcamp on a Mac Pro and I have to mess around a lot to get it working.

That's the trouble with sites that sell keys, which is illegal anyway. To get a legit key you need to contact MS or buy a new copy of what ever OS you want. Good luck.

I think you should go back to the seller, and if he doesn't make good, report him to MS. He sounds like a crook.
