In Firefox, check Tools/Options/Security/Passwords and make sure that "Remember Passwords for Sites" is checked.
Also, the newer versions of Firefox have a Private Browsing Feature.... make sure that you're not using that. It will intentionally not remember anything you are doing after the fact.
