Dear Forum Members,

Can anyone please explain to me how to activate and register Windows 7?
I have repeatedly been receiving the following error message;

"A problem occurred when Windows tried to activate. Error Code 0x8004FC13"

I have been trying to use the Product Key as provided before the commencement
of the download and also I have tried other Product Keys as advised by Microsoft.
Specifically I have attempted to re-download Win 7 RC1 multiple times and tried
the "new" product keys provided (I didn't actually proceed with the download as
I have an .ISO DVD copy of the program) however I persistently receive the same
error message/code.

Can anyone please advise me of what they think the issue and the solution might
be?

Thanks very much.

Hello Cameron,

Are you running behind a proxy server or a firewall by any chance? sometimes this can cause problems - it may also be a restriction your ISP has put on you. It sounds like your key is not making it to the authentication server.

Kindest Regards,
Matthew

P.S I just found this Activation of Windows 7 which may help you.

Hello Matthew,

Thank you for your reply. I have only recently started on ADSL2+
and I'm still figuring out the whole"Ports" concept.

I will check out of it's the Modem firewall that is causing this issue.

Thanks very much for your reply and I will update this thread when
it works.

Cameron.
