i'm disappointed that WMP12 doesn't have the enhancements that WMP11 and other have. oh well, there are plenty of third party apps but VERY disappointing.

Its beta...maybe its not finished? one can only hope..

Switch to now playing mode, click the little check box at the top right, all of the enhancements are still there. What's missing is the toolbar when minimized.

As mentioned by momalle1

Switch to now playing mode, click the little box at the top right with the little blue tick in it, all of the enhancements are still there. [See screenshot]
