📎 AI Summary:
The forum discussion centers on Mozilla’s new Firefox addon called Lightbeam, which shows users who is tracking their online activity. While the original post highlights the addon’s tracking visualization feature, subsequent comments express interest in whether the addon can prevent tracking rather than just display it. The conversation concludes with the acknowledgment that Firefox offers a “Do Not Track” option, but its effectiveness is limited since many organizations ignore such requests, akin to unsolicited telemarketing calls, as explained on Mozilla’s help page.

ozilla has a new Firefox addon called Lightroom. It let's you know who's tracking you. Here's a link MaximumPC put up about it. http://www.maximumpc.com/mozilla_lightbeam_tracks_your_online_activity_2013

I'd be more interested in if it would stop the tracking.....

Quite right! There is an option in Firefox which enables you to say to companies, "Please do not track me" but places them under no obligation to do so. The less moral any organisation is, the less likely they are to respect your request. Such organisations are in the same league as the nuisance callers who pester you daily with cold caller telephone selling despite you having registered your preference to not receive such calls. The ineffectiveness of opting out of tracking in Mozilla is admitted in the Firefox help page:
