Microsoft 365 Roadmap item 568369 will let educators assign different attachments, resources, and instructions to separate Individual Groups inside a single assignment, removing the need to create duplicate assignments for differentiated learning paths.
The feature, listed by Microsoft as in development with general availability targeted for September 2026, is intended for classrooms where students receive the same overall task but need different supporting material. An educator could, for example, provide advanced reading resources to one group and guided material to another while keeping the assignment, due date, submission flow, and grading workflow unified.
Microsoft’s roadmap entry says students will see only the content mapped to their group. Before publishing, educators will be able to review the group-to-content mapping, an important control for avoiding an accidental release of the wrong materials to the wrong learners.
Today, Teams for Education users who want to differentiate attachments or directions typically have to create separate assignments for each group. That fragments the class workload: teachers must publish, track, and often grade multiple versions of what is substantively one activity.
The planned change keeps differentiation at the resource layer rather than changing the core assignment model. Content will continue to be created through the existing Assignment resource workflows, meaning Microsoft is not introducing a separate authoring surface or a new submission type.
