I have just updated and find no labels on items such as Control Panel amongst other things - should I revert to previous version?

In your search bar, type in control panel. It will bring it up. you can pin it to your start or taskbar

Control panel is slowly being phased out in favor of System Settings which can easily be opened by pressing [Win key + i]
