What it does for you · July 2026

Say what is wrong.
In your own words.

You do not need the right words. Type what your computer is doing and it finds the thread that already fixed it. It searches for your words and for your meaning at the same time. Then it reads the best results again to put the right one first.

Four things it does: works out what you meant, reads the best results again, shows you only what you may see, has your answer ready next time.

Chapter 01

Finding

You describe the problem. It works out which thread you need.

01

You do not need the right words

Something is wrong and you cannot name it. Your laptop goes silent after it wakes from sleep. Type that in. Say it the way you would say it to a friend.

Twenty years of questions are in here. Most of the time somebody has already hit your problem, and somebody else has already answered.

The thread that fixed it may never use the word “sound”. It comes back to you anyway. The search box works out what you meant.

You bring the symptom. It brings the thread.

02

It searches two ways at the same time

Every search runs two ways at once. It looks for your exact words. It also looks for your meaning. Both run on every search you type.

Paste an error code and the thread that names it comes first. Say the same thing in your own words and the right thread still comes first. There are 661,062 posts here you can search this way.

Two searches, one list. You never have to pick which one you want.

Chapter 02

Ordering

The best results get read again. You only ever see what you may read.

03

Then it reads the best results again

The thread you wanted comes out on top, not seventh down. The first pass hands back a shortlist. Then it reads the top twenty again, one at a time, next to your question.

The ones that really answer you move up. It takes about half a second. You never notice it happening. Usually three or four results change place.

The first pass finds. The second pass reads.

04

You only see what you are allowed to see

Search shows you posts you are allowed to read, and nothing else. Deleted posts do not come back. Hidden posts stay hidden. A post waiting on a moderator does not appear.

Every result is checked against your own account, every time. So your results and a stranger's are not always the same list. Remove something from the forum and it leaves search with it.

A removed post is gone from the site and gone from search.

Chapter 03

Ready

Ask again and it is instant. Ask from your own tools and it still works.

05

Ask the same thing and it is instant

Search does more than list threads. It writes you a short answer from the ones it found, and links every thread it used.

Popular questions get asked over and over. So it keeps that answer for seven days. Ask the same thing tomorrow and it comes straight back, with no waiting.

The answer never goes stale on you. If the threads behind it change, the old answer is thrown out. You get a fresh one.

Asked once, answered once, ready for everyone after that.

06

Your own assistant can search it too

You may already use an assistant of your own. Point it at this forum and it can search here for you. You do not have to open the site at all.

It reads what you could read by clicking, and not one line more. Nothing private, nothing deleted, nothing hidden. Same forum, same rule, whichever tool you use.

Your assistant gets your view of the forum. Never more than that.

Four things worth knowing

You do not need the right words

Type the symptom in your own language. The thread that fixed it may use none of your words. You get it anyway.

Chapter 01

Two searches, one list

It looks for your exact words and for your meaning at the same time. Error codes still land first. So do plain descriptions.

Chapter 01

The best results get read twice

The top twenty come back for a second read, next to your question. About half a second later, the right one sits at the top. Deleted and hidden posts are never in that list.

Chapter 02

Ask again and it is already there

An answer stays ready for seven days. Point your own assistant at the forum and it searches here for you, seeing exactly what you see.
