What is W7 using the 100 mb system disk for? is it for recovery files? I know w7 can now make an actual restore image can you use this partition for that? just wondering

It is used by Bitlocker, if you use that feature. It also contains the files needed to boot the recovery options when W7 can't boot normally but doesn't actually contain any system restore files or anything like that, it's much too small. It can be removed if you really want to but it's hardly worth it considering the size of the partition. As long as you have your W7 DVD then you can boot the recovery environment from that instead.
