Windows 7 a question i just can't help asking...

with a quick look at the top threads in this forum, i can't help ask why so many people are soooooooooooooo tied down to win xp??? this makes no sense to me at all. win vista ultimate is a 1000 times better, and win 7 ultimate is a 1000000 better than xp. so why is everyone so xp crazy? you have menus all the way across the screen, can't resize folders and it doesn't work nearly as intimately with what you are thinking. i know many of you are going to say that you can get downloads to make it look like and work like vista, but if you are going to go to all that trouble, why not just use vista. the security is ten times better and it runs a lot faster. i will just never get it... of course i always used vista ultimate, and have heard that there were many more problems with home premium. but still, why would you want an xp environment, when you can have a win 7 environment?

well i was looking for some answers, and definitely got some. thanks to everyone for their input. i like all i read, except kyle's quote above. sorry, no offense intended toward you kyle, but i totally disagree with this. i used xp for years and liked it. but vista ult was much, much more stable and a ton quicker. plus it allows you to be more efficient in what you do, as well, by streamlining the steps to get there.
anyway, we will just have to agree to disagree. lol. by the way, did you ever try vista ultimate???

Lots of folks still think of winXp as the most stable of systems and not a resource hog etc
Many reasons to still have a affectionate spot for winXP . Plus of course many companies still run XP the challenge for MS will be to get companies to migrate to win7 from XP .

I certainly don't speak for everyone but I know personally I stuck with XP for so long because of the fact that it worked with whatever I threw at it.. And worked very well I might add (with the right hardware of course) and it is still just an all around awesome OS.. even though it's a decade in age.. I'll continue to use XP after Windows 7 is done and in stores.. just like I did when Vista was released in stores.. I have 5 pc's at my home and currently 2 of the 5 are running XP alongside Vista and Windows7.. (triple boot), 1 is running XP only, 1 is running Ubuntu only and the other Windows 7 only..

I do have to agree that cosmetically XP is way past it's prime.. but hey who cares.. XP is so solid that you can pretty much customize it to however you want it to look without hurting performance..

I think Windows 7 will be the XP killer though.. Since the Alpha build 6801 of win 7 I have been using XP very little in comparison to before I downloaded that build..

My plans post Windows 7's final release are to setup 2 of my 5 pc's with Windows XP only (One will be a file dump and the other will be a work computer), 1 with Windows 7 only (that'll be my Core i7 rig), 1 with Windows Vista only, and the final one will have Ubuntu and Windows 7...

I think some people have stayed with XP because of the media.. all you ever hear about Vista is the negative.. (well that may be different now, but for the longest time that's all you heard).. and of course some people won't go with Windows 7 because Joe Blow down the street said it's just like Vista or it's "Vista done right"...

I would use Windows XP over Vista any day. Security is the least of my concerns, and other than that, XP trumps vista in speed and stability. I wouldn't use Vista is you paid me. Windows 7 on the other hand is a very worthy version of Windows, and as such I use the RC as my ONLY OS on both my computers (Note: I am a computer speciailist and as such, I wouldn't recommend using a non-finalized OS as your only OS unless you're aware of the risks and are proficient enough to do so.)

Yes I only use windows 7 this way to As it is just a hobby for me I have basically nothing to lose so I am kinda worry free this way . In a small way I am a computer buff long hard rd to learn but still I do not specialise as such .
Just a pleasure to set up a well run system and overcome all the small and large problems one encounters along the way

Ty One problem I have is when I try to help someone . I know how I do what I need to do but because I do not have a formal structure to fall back on explaining how I resolve a problem is a problem .
Lots of things I do are over the years instinctive almost subconscous . Not a formal approach but it works for me

I know what you mean, plus sometime it's just too hard to try to explain a solution to someone.. not at the fault of the person, sometimes it's just something that no matter how hard you try to explain, it would just be much easier to just show them rather than explain it.. Oh well though, I manage to get the overall point of what I'm trying to explain across one way or another usually.. But it definitely can be frustrating sometimes...

I find over the years I am not even thinking about what I do = one problem explaining !
I am watching the tv and getting a problem resolved . At no time am I really concentrating on the way I do stuff just do it . Like driveing a car you know how to do it so you just do it .
Becomes second nature .
Then your in a situation where you have to explain your actions ! Not so easy
