The biggest/best example of this nuisance is in Solitaire. It will flash between Not Responding and being normal. Lind of making an epileptic display but it isn't constant. Happens in Firefox and WoW too. Tabs between programs also, and sometimes closes WoW.

I've unplugged the keyboard and mouse and the problem still persists.

The issue you are experiencing with applications flashing between "Not Responding" and normal can be quite frustrating. This behavior can be indicative of various underlying factors ranging from system resource constraints to software conflicts or hardware issues. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem: 1. Update Graphics and System Drivers: - Ensure that your graphics card drivers, as well as other essential system drivers, are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause compatibility issues leading to application freezes. 2. Check for System Updates: - Make sure that Windows 7 Ultimate is fully updated with the latest patches and updates from Microsoft. Updates often...
Updates often include bug fixes and improvements that could address such issues. 3. Scan for Malware and Viruses: - Run a full system scan using your preferred antivirus software to check for any malware or viruses that could be causing system instability. 4. Monitor Resource Usage: - Use the Task Manager to monitor system resource usage (CPU, memory, disk, network) when the issue occurs. Look for any unusual spikes or high usage that could point to a specific program causing the problem. 5. Check for Software Conflicts: - If the issue occurs primarily in specific applications like Firefox, WoW, or Solitaire, consider any recent software installations or updates that might have coincided with the problem. Temporarily disabling or uninstalling such programs can help identify the culprit. 6. Hardware Diagnostic: - Although you mentioned unplugging the keyboard and mouse, it's also advisable to check for hardware issues like overheating, faulty RAM, or a failing hard drive. Running diagnostics tools provided by the hardware manufacturer can help identify any hardware-related problems. 7. Increase Virtual Memory: - With only 1GB of physical memory available on your system, increasing the virtual memory allocation might help prevent memory-related issues. You can adjust virtual memory settings in the System Properties. Given your system specifications, particularly the limited physical memory available, managing resources efficiently is crucial. Upgrading hardware components like RAM could also greatly improve system performance and stability. If the issue persists after trying these steps, it might be beneficial to seek further assistance from a professional technician who can conduct a more in-depth analysis of your system.
