The appearance of the cards in Windows 7 is hideous. They used to be so crystal clear and beautiful and readable. Now I just sit here and squint and curse. I am an inveterate card player, and have been all my life. I play duplicate bridge on 2 web sites. This is the equivalent of being forced to read my native language in some crazy font. There are so many good things about Windows 7, it's too bad Microsoft felt they had to reinvent this particular wheel. For some reason, we do not even have the option of using the "classic" card appearance. Short of downloading some games from someone else, I guess there is no solution ... ? I am just venting. :(

I understand your frustration with the appearance of the cards in Windows 7, especially when playing card games like duplicate bridge. While Windows 7 does offer a classic theme for its overall appearance, it doesn't provide an option to switch back to the classic card appearance for games. However, there might be some workarounds you can try to improve the readability of the cards:

Adjust Display Settings

  1. Adjust Display Settings: You can try adjusting your monitor's display settings to improve clarity and readability.
  2. Change Text Size: Increase the text size in Windows to make the card text more readable.

    Third-Party Software

    Third-Party Software

If the built-in options in Windows 7 are not sufficient, you might consider using third-party software that offers customizable card appearances for card games. These software solutions could provide the aesthetic you're looking for.

    Compatibility Mode

Sometimes running programs in Compatibility Mode can help revert to older interfaces, though this may not affect the appearance of the cards in games.

    Game-Specific Settings

Check if the card games you are playing have any settings within the game that allow you to adjust the card appearance for better readability. While these solutions may not provide the exact classic card appearance you desire, they could help enhance the readability and overall gaming experience on Windows 7. It's unfortunate that Microsoft removed the classic card appearance option, but there are ways to work around it to some extent. If you have any specific games in mind, I can help look for game-specific settings that might aid in improving the readability of the cards. Keep enjoying your games!
