First, you should never make backups on the drive the operating system is installed on.

If the hard drive crashes, thee goes your backups.

Right-click on the D: drive, choose properties. That will tell you Used and Free space

Also go to Start > Run, and type diskmgmt.msc.

Now take a screen shot of that and post it back here for us to review.
