It sounds like you are encountering an issue with your computer where the screen goes black when you try to access your desktop, but you can still see the mouse cursor. This can be frustrating, but there are steps you can take to try and resolve this issue. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to fix the black screen issue on your computer:

1. Perform a Power Cycle

  • Turn off your computer completely.
  • Unplug the power cord and any other peripherals.
  • Hold down the power button for about 30 seconds to drain any remaining power.

  • Select "Safe Mode" from the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  • Once in Safe Mode, check if the issue persists. If not, it could be a driver or software problem causing the black screen.

    3. Update Graphics Drivers

  • Outdated or corrupt graphics drivers can cause display issues.
  • Update your graphics drivers either through Device Manager or by visiting the manufacturer's website for the latest drivers.

    4. Run System File Checker (SFC)

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. This will scan and repair system files.

    5. Check for Malware

  • Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to check for any malicious programs that could be causing the issue.

    6. Perform a System Restore

  • If the issue started recently, you can try restoring your system to a point before the problem occurred using System Restore.

    7. Reset Windows

  • If none of the above steps work, you can consider resetting Windows. This will reinstall Windows while keeping your personal files intact.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC. Try these steps in sequence and see if any of them resolve the black screen issue on your computer. If the issue persists, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
