I was watching a video on a news website yesterday when I suddenly got a blue screen. After restarting, I checked the Event Viewer and found the following BugCheck error:

"The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000003b (0x00000000c0000005, 0xfffff80002cb027e, 0xfffff8800b3add90, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 122111-51901-01."

The file referenced is 808 MB. I checked the Minidump folder and found a DMP file which is only 285 KB. Both files were saved at about the same time, so I assume they're referencing the same error. I've attached the smaller Mini Dump file to this post.

    View attachment 122111-51901-01.dmp

Can anyone take a look at this file and tell me what caused my blue screen and how to fix it?

I tried installing Microsoft SDK so I could open and view these files, but my SDK installation failed for some reason. The log shows the repeated error, "DDSet_Error: Patch Hooks: Missing required property 'ProductFamily': Setup cannot continue." and "DDSet_Warning: Setup failed while calling 'getDLLDirectory'. System error: Cannot create a file when that file already exists." At the end, there's a message that says, "installation failed with return code 5100." I've searched the web and found other people having the same installation issues, but their solutions (updating Registry settings, checking the Temp directory, uninstalling VC++ 2010 x86 10.0.40219 update, etc), did not work for me.

Also, last night as I was restarting my computer, the shutdown process never completed. The computer froze on the "Shutting Down..." screen. It stayed that way for about 30 minutes until my computer finally shut down without restarting. When I turned it back on, I checked the Event Viewer, and while the crash was logged as a Critical Error, there was no Bug Check message to go with it.

I'm working off of a clean installation of Windows 7 onto a hard disk I reformatted a couple weeks ago. I just finished installing all my programs and updates so hopefully, this issue will be a quick fix.

My computer is an HP HDX 18T notebook running Windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.

Hi akm79 and Welcome to The Forum.

    Usual causes:
System service, Device driver, graphics driver, ?memory/

Your latest dump file lists ntkrnlmp.exe as the probable cause. This is a Windows System file and for it to be the cause of your crash is highly unlikely.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes. Random stop codes can often indicate hardware issues.

    As a Priority:

Avira is known to be a cause of BSOD's on many Windows 7 systems.
Uninstall Avira through the Control Panel. Then run the Avira RegistryCleaner to clean up any remaining registry entries. Download BSOD friendly Microsoft Security Essentials as its replacement. Make sure Windows firewall is enabled!

Let us know how it goes. If you get further problems with blue screens, attach your new dump files and details and we'll move on from there.

    If blue screens persist;
Make sure your computer is properly configured to collect dump files.
Please read the first post in this sticky thread here How to ask for help with a BSOD problem
Do your best to accumulate the data required.
Run the SF Diagnostic tool (download and right click the executable and choose run as administrator)
Download and run CPUz. Use the Windows snipping tool to gather images from all tabs including all slots populated with memory under the SPD tab.
Likewise RAMMon. Export the html report, put everything into a desktop folder that you've created for this purpose, zip it up and attach it to your next post (right click it and choose send to, compressed (zipped) folder.
    Good luck

    To ensure minidumps are enabled:
Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
    OK your way out.
Reboot if changes have been made.

Here is the zip folder containing the SF diagnostic info and CPU-Z screenshots. I installed RAMMon, but when I tried to run it, it gave an error saying it wasn't installed correctly. I tried reinstalling, but with the same result. I've included a screenshot of the error in the zip folder if you want to see it.

Hopefully, we can pinpoint which driver is the culprit. I installed all of my drivers directly from the HP website, with the exception of my graphics driver, which I got from NVIDIA. The HP website was supposedly showing the drivers I needed specifically for my model laptop. However, I have noticed that some of them were outdated, but I'm not certain as to whether the later versions would work with my laptop or if they're designed for other models. On the HP site, some of the later drivers are there, but they don't show up when I search for drivers needed for my laptop.

Elmer, I changed my Startup and Recovery settings per your suggestions. However, I'm not comfortable letting go of Avira and switching to Microsoft Security Essentials unless we can pinpoint with certainty that Avira was the cause of this specific issue. I've used Avira for a while and have been fairly pleased with it.

Thank you guys for the help!
