Upon boot up into Windows 7 Ultimate recently, suddenly Windows Explorer Library popped onto the desktop. I tried to search various forums for a solution in regedit but now find I can boot up to wallpaper where it hangs up. I am able to go to Windows Task Manager>New Task and type "C:WINDOWS/system32/userinit.exe" (without quotes) and the desktop boots. I don't know if I did something wrong in the registry editor. Is there a fix for this problem?

Solution
It seems like you are facing an issue with Windows Explorer Library popping up and getting stuck at the wallpaper when booting up Windows 7 Ultimate. The workaround you mentioned by using the Windows Task Manager to run "C:WINDOWS/system32/userinit.exe" is a temporary fix to get your desktop to load. To troubleshoot and fix this problem effectively, you can try the following steps:

Fixing Windows Explorer Library Issue:

    • Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    • Go to the Startup tab and disable any suspicious startup programs that might be causing the issue.

    ]Check for Malware:
    • Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to check for any malware that could be causing the issue.

      Permanent Fix for Userinit.exe Issue:

    []Registry Check for Userinit.exe:
    • Open Registry Editor by pressing Win + R, typing regedit, and pressing Enter.
    • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
    • Check if the Userinit value is set to C:\Windows\system32\userinit.exe,.
    [
    ]Repair Userinit.exe Entry:
    • If the Userinit value is correct, you can try to run a System Restore to a point before the issue started.

      Additional Tips:

      • Ensure your system is up-to-date with the latest Windows updates.
      • Regularly clean up temporary files and perform disk cleanup to improve system performance.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, a deeper investigation may be necessary to pinpoint the root cause of the problem. You can also consider upgrading to a more recent version of Windows for better security and support, as Windows 7 is no longer receiving updates from Microsoft.
