Hi,

I'm using Windows 7 RTM for two months or so.
I have a recurring problem: While surfing the web after sometime, either with IE 8 or FF3.5, the browser stops responding and I have to close it and reopen in order to surf again, and then its stops responding more often, so I have to restart the computer in order to surf again without interruption. Also: After one of the browsers crashes for the first time, I can't use Windows media player until I restart the computer.

The event viewer says that I had an 'Application Hang' Code 1002.
I've made some memory tests but they showed no problem, I've cleared Adobe Flash history, but it didn't help - it keeps on doing this.

My computer's specs:
Intel Core2Duo E6400
Intel 965WH motherboard
2GB Ram 800Mhz
Nvidia 8500

Anyone has a suggestion?

Thanks,
Udi

Hey Udi, It seems like you're facing browser and system stability issues on your Windows 7 RTM system, especially with Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.5. The 'Application Hang' error you mentioned (Code 1002) indicates that a program stopped responding. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve these issues:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Update Browsers:
    • Ensure that you are using the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox compatible with Windows 7. Upgrading to newer versions might improve stability.
    []Check for Windows Updates:
    • Make sure your Windows 7 system is fully updated. Sometimes, system updates include fixes for software compatibility issues.

    [
    ]Check for Driver Updates:
    • Update your graphics card driver (Nvidia 8500) and motherboard drivers from the manufacturer's website. Outdated drivers can cause stability problems.
    []Check for Malware:
    • Use an antivirus program to scan your system for malware. Malware can cause system instability and crashes.
    [
    ]Run System File Checker (SFC):
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command sfc /scannow to check and repair corrupted system files.
    []Check for Overheating:
    • Ensure that your system is not overheating. Clean the dust inside your computer and check if all fans are working properly.
    [
    ]Check System Integrity:
    • In Command Prompt, run chkdsk /f /r to check and repair disk errors. You might need to schedule a disk check on the next system restart.
    []Disable Add-ons/Extensions:
    • In browsers, disable unnecessary add-ons/extensions. Sometimes, third-party add-ons can cause browser crashes.
    [
    ]Monitor Resource Usage:
    • Use Task Manager to monitor resource usage when browsing. High CPU or memory usage could indicate a problem.
  2. Check Event Viewer:
    • Look for more details in the Event Viewer related to the 'Application Hang' error. This might provide more specific information about the cause.

      Additional Recommendations:

      • Consider upgrading to a newer version of Windows as Windows 7 is no longer receiving security updates.
      • Back up your important data regularly to prevent data loss in case of system instability.
Try these steps and see if they help resolve the browser and system stability issues you are experiencing. If the problem persists, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
