Windows 7 graphics drivers conflicting and/or startup application causing problems at startup.

Hi folks. My system specs are -
Compaq Presario SG3470IL Desktop PC
windows 7 ultimate service pack 1 32-bit
intel core 2 duo @2.60 ghz
4gb ddr2 ram
sapphire radeon hd 6450 1gb ddr3 dx11 graphics card
motherboard - msi boston 7525/775 LGA socket PCI-Ex 1.0
chipset - p35/g33/g31
southbridge - 82801gb
bios version - phoenix tech, 5.08 (not updated ever coz I dont know how to and didn’t have a reason to)

I have installed windows on systems before and have limited knowledge of windows software.
i have searched various threads with people having similar problems but not exactly the same one that i am having. whenever i start up the windows after a break of about 5 minutes at the least, windows doesnt respond immediately. i can move the cursor, click the start button but thats about it. when i try to refresh, the cursor just gets busy(rotating) and all i can do is click the start button, and the start menu opens after quite some time. and i have to wait till i can click log off and/or enter task manager as im unable to do it right away. it goes on like this for a lot of minutes. sometimes it allows me to log off. and sometimes it shows me the windows not responding,wait or end process msg. but once i log off and log back in, windows works like a charm. Also the windows and browser pages start blinking randomly for a few seconds and don’t respond dor sometime. now,i didnt have this problem when i had an nvidia 210gt. i only started facing problem after installing the 6450 card. thats why i suspect its the ati card or drivers (which cause a conflict after shifting to ati from nvidia card in some cases) rather, thats causing the problem is because i have tried every other method mentioned in various threads – including amd forums where lot of people are facing similar but not same issues, - reinstalled windows(complete reformat), disabled/enabled startup and microsoft services/programs,enabled select programs and services, checked registry for errors, ran cccleaner, ran malware bytes, scanned with comp for virus and all that (am using kis2012), and well, a few other methods i cant even remember after trying out so many.it might be a totally different thing causing this too, I don’t know. i am stumped as what do do or try next. so please help. i am exhausted looking for solutions. cant even remember if i left out some method that i tried.

What would be great would be if you added paragraphs to the first chunk.

Have you tried fully cleaning your system of NVIDIA drivers? Using Driver Sweeper (google), install it and run it in Safe Mode, and Analyze and Clean all NVIDIA related checkboxes.

Kaspersky AV < Microsoft Security Essentials in many cases, could you give it a try? Uninstall Kaspersky and install MSE for now, run a full system scan and see if it still hangs.

Other possibilities:
Check your PSU is capable of running a 6450, the 210 requires a lot less power than most 6000 series cards.
Under Task Manager, click the tab "Performance". Check the load on your CPU and RAM and make adjustments accordingly.

IMO, A 6450 and Core 2 is just a major bottleneck, plus 4gigs of RAM, you're wasting your money. Might as well do a full upgrade and make a new one from scratch.

Edit: You say you have a HP computer - have you checked to make sure you can actually upgrade? Many manufacturers such as Dell, Lenovo or HP don't allow you to upgrade to much higher hardware, so check and confirm if you can.

hi general, thank you for the response. i did manage to solve the problem about 2 days back. turns out that it was system watcher in kaspersky that was the culprit. so you are right. it IS one of the possibilities you mentioned. who would have guessed though that it was this particular service in kis that was causing the problem. i just kept tryin random solutions and imagine my surprise when it disappeared after turning system watcher off.
as for the graphics card and ram, you are right about that too. it seems the psu and mobo slot and the 6450 dont get along well coz the mobo socket is pci ex 1.0 and the graphics card is 2+. the cpu gets very noisy while gaming. as for the ram, its only 3.25 gb usable...but theres a definite improvment in gaming as now i can play in higher resolutions without lags like before. apart from that nothing else is noticable in terms of change. my cpu is almost 5 years old now.
i thank you very much for your response. you are probably the one person in weeks whose reply contained info about what might possibly be wrong. and am not talking about just one forum here. so, thank you once again.
