Windows 7 BSOD every few minutes at worst, tried (almost) everything.

Hi out there,

Recently I've been having a lot of BSOD's on my desktop running windows 7. I've tried troubleshooting and searching the web for anything related to my problem. I have gathered all the information you asked for, and a bit more from bluescreenview, too.
I've tried to reinstall windows 7 on my PC, but that didn't solve anything.

Also I only posted the two slots in CPU-Z, since the two others are empty.

Hi Simon,
all your dump files are the same and are a Bugcheck 124 which means a hardware fault has occurred. If we check through we see the type of fault was a 'Machine check exception' and causes can be:
  • overclocking (which normally increases heat-output)
  • poorly-fitted heatsink/computer fans (the same problem can happen with excessive dust in the CPU fan)
  • an overloaded internal or external power-supply (fixable by upgrading)
That list is by no means finite and a Bios in need of updating as well as RAM errors can also be included as possible causes. (not to mention certain software can also cause this issue)

Bios is old and a 2014 version was only released a few weeks ago (there have been 6 updates since your Bios was released). Please update your bios to the latest version ensuring I have the correct support page for your motherboard:

Check your CPU is running ok by using Intel's diagnostic tool:

Check your temperatures with this app:

Try to get figures for when the CPU is at idle and at full load (if possible)

I used the last dump file in the list to check through the driver stack but couldn't really see any so I'm guessing that's because you re-installed as stated above. You can find most of the drivers needed on the motherboard support page:

Hi Kemical,

First of all thanks for the very quick response. I clean my pc fairly often so dust is not the problem, neither is overclocking. I believe my PSU is fine for my setup, I have a Corsair CX 750W. I did as you wrote, and I installed MSI Live Update and updated the BIOS together with several other updates. My temperatures are about 35-40 degrees celcius on surfing/downloading and about 50-55 degrees celcius when playing games like Battlefield 4 with max in all graphic options. The CPU seems to be running fine too.

After installing the new BIOS i have had no BSOD's (for a while atleast, about 3 hours now while trying to use a varity of different programs that caused crashing earlier), and everything seems to work just fine.
