doing this did not work as even though it installed the driver, the wireless adaptor then didn't pick up me router and therefore had to rollback my driver. if you can come up with any ideas on how to either make the driver work or find a new driver that will work. But i have to say thanks as you have help quite alot today, even though it has not been fixed. but i think this is down to d-links fault.

What you could try is to completely uninstall all of the software that was previously installed. Then install only the driver in the device manager, same as above.

    This should do well.

Yeah, I think it was a combination of the old wireless driver causing issues and also the bad RAM. Each was probably responsible for crashes at different times. The good news is that your machine should be perfectly stable once you have the RAM replaced.

What you can try to do before replacing is to make sure that the bios settings are supplying enough voltage (VDIMM) to the modules. Use CPU-Z to find out the exact model number. Then visit the manufacturer's site for the voltage and timing settings. Adjust the motherboard bios settings accordingly and test again.

In all likelihood though, yes, the memory will still need to be replaced but a small chance not.

infact i have just installed cpu-z and it says my crucial ballistix 1333MHz cl7 ram is running at the wrong clocks, it says that they are running at 9-9-9-24 and also the frequence is also running at 669.6 MHz. could this also cause these problems as it could just mean that i have to manually clock them myself. which i don't really know how to do on my ASUS motherboard.

That looks correct to me. What you can do is to post a screen shot of the memory tab and also of the spd tab. I'll check on things for ya with this info.

Type "snipping tool" in the start menu without the quotes, then press enter. You can make .jpg screen shots with that to attach.

Set the motherboard VDIMM setting (or RAM Voltage) to 1.8v and save. Reboot to Windows and use normally. If it crashes anytime soon, replace the modules.

    Reference - http://www.crucial.com/pdf/BL0006.pdf

If you have an i7 processor, this memory is not compatible because the max memory voltage to be used with them is 1.65v.

do you think i should change the timings manually to 6-6-6-20 then and 1.8V. i also have a couple of minidumps and i think one of them is pointing at the NVidia graphics card. and the answer to you question is no i dont have a I7. so just incase it helps i'll list my computer specs

Processor: AMD Phenom II 955 Black Edition
    Mobo: ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO 785G

Graphics card: Gigabyte GTX 470 Super OC
HDD: Seagate 500GB (for OS system)
    Seagate 1TB
    RAM: Crucial Ballistix 1333MHz
    Wireless Adaptor: D-Link DWA-556
    PSU: Antec 750w Earthwatts

Nah, that will make it more likely to crash because of the tighter timings.

Have the manufacturer replace the RAM since Memtest showed errors.

na that could take upto 28days for them to replace it, and i haven't sent them off yet. as i wanted to see if i can fix it. well i'll try the timings as that is what they should be running at anyway
