Hi everyone.

I just got a new computer recently and I've been able to play most new games perfectly. The only problem is that I kept having my computer lock-up while playing Battlefield 3. I thought it was the game's fault as we were many to encounter the same problem. But I was playing Batman : Arkham City and my computer just froze as well.
I had to reboot it and Windows told me it was a Bluescreen error.
I never actually saw the Blue Screen.
I attached everything you asked for.

Thanks in advance !

Hi pnkee and Welcome to The Forum.

You're getting a Stop Error Code 116

Hi pnkee and Welcome to The Forum.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds. If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating. Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU. Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference. If so, it might be as simple as dust build up and subsequently inadequate cooling." - H2SO4

As a first step I would try re-setting the graphics drivers. Especially as mentioned in the (latest) dump file.

nVidia Graphics Drivers.

  • Download and install Driver Sweeper.
  • Uninstall your current Graphics setup through Programs and Features
  • Boot to (preferably) Safe Mode and run Driver Sweeper to clean up the remnants of your current Graphics set up.
  • Reboot to Normal Mode.
  • Install your new Graphics set up.

Let us know how it goes. If you get further problems with blue screens, attach your new dump files and details and we'll move on from there.

HTH.

Solution
Hi Elmer,

Thanks for the answer.
I already tried reinstalling the video drivers for my GPU but I'm gonna try one more time, using Driver Sweeper this time.
It's not a heat issue, as the GPU never goes above 80 °C, which seems okay, right ?

When asking on forums, some guys said that it may be because of my Power Supply not being powerful enough. Could that be the case ? (Details in my profile)
When I get home tonight, I'm gonna try playing with the drivers, but I doubt it will change anything, sadly.

Thanks for the answer anyway !
I'll let you know how it goes.

One further thing I missed.

The dtsoftbus driver has been known to cause problems on some Windows 7 systems, usually during gaming. This belongs to Daemon Tools Light. I suggest uninstalling until your blue screens are resolved.

Power supply? Hmm, not too sure. I know nothing about your graphics card and I wanted to catch you about DT before you logged out. I've used this PSU calculator before eXtreme Power Supply Calculator I always "lie" to give the worst case scenario to check the PSU should be capable.

And many Thanks for taking the time out to fill in some of your system specs. You wouldn't believe how often we have to hone our psychic powers to figure out what we are dealing with!! :D

I will uninstall Daemon Tools then if it may be the cause for the BSOD.

Thanks for the PS calculator. I used it, and in the worst case scenario I need less than 500W, so that should be enough. (But I'm not so sure about it)

And you're much welcome, I'm the one needing help, so I should give you all the information you need for helping me, right ? :D

If reinstalling the graphics doesn't change anything, what should I do ? I bought this PC for Battlefield 3 in priority, and I'd like to be able to play it :frown:

Be assured your not the only person who's experiencing bsod's with BF3. I'll give your dump files a run through and see what drivers could use updating / may be known problematic ones. I'll update this specific post when done as opposed to adding another one. To be honest I saw the 116 error and didn't look any further (I was in lazy mode!!).

Well, that was fast.
I did everything you say :

- Reinstalled NVIDIA drivers (290.36) properly using Driver Sweeper
- Uninstalled Daemon Tools
- Uninstalled Hamachi
- Installed Link Removed (which was already installed, I uninstalled then installed again)

I tried lauching BF3, I couldn't even get in game, and the BSOD appeared.
I'm joining the minidump file here.

Link Removed

I'm sooooo bored of this damn game...
Thanks for taking the time to help me though !

It happened once more just now while trying to play the damn BF3.
I tried going back to older graphics drivers, but heh, doesn't work.

Minidump attached, as usual.

Yea, still getting a 116 error. It may be worth re-seating your graphics card as a start. You say your PC is "recent". How recent? Have you run any tests on your hardware? (I thought I'd answered your last but one post/dump).

Re-seating my graphics card ? I'm not english so there are some words I do not understand. What do you mean ?
And it's like 2 months old, brand new.
I have tested Furmark, and that's all, but it went through it without any problem.

Re-seating my graphics card ? I'm not english so there are some words I do not understand.
Sorry :(, Remove the graphics card and then install it again, to make sure it is connecting properly to the Motherboard..

Hi

Can you go into your bios and find the XMP setting and enable it please. That should hopefully fix your problem. :)

I did both of the things you asked for.
Well, BF3 did not give me a BSOD but crashed instead, but I have a feeling it's a bit random, as the same thing already happened yesterday...

What is XMP ? Is it safe ? Is it like some kind of overclock ?
Thank you though, I'll keep you in touch if it happens again, in BF3 or any other game.

It stands for extreme memory profile and is only supported if your memory says it fine to use. On the memory boards theres a spd chip XMP makes it use the fastest setting that's allowed by the mem. It auto sets memory timings and mem voltages so you don't have to bother :)

Oh okay I see. Thanks for the explanations !
I tried so many things, it looks like the new beta graphics drivers give me the BSOD.
I got one yesterday, and none while using WHQL ones.
But in any case, BF3 won't work, BSOD, or Crash...

I'm uploading yesterday's dump, in case you may find something to tell me, but heh, that game just sucks.

Can you remove all traces of your video drivers and then run driversweeper in safe mode. Then install the latest WHQL drivers from Nvidia please. Reinstalling DirectX may also be a good idea.

NmsUK

Unfortunately, I have already done that, but I'm gonna try once more.
I'll do it tomorrow and keep you informed.

It's me again.

I hoped the problem was resolved, as I changed my PSU for a 650W one, and I had no more BSOD.
But I had 2 of them just today while playing random games (Mass Effect, Killing Floor).
I've attached the most recent dump file.

I'm beginning to lose hope.
I'll try reinstalling DirectX, even if I don't know how to do so.

Thanks in advance though !
