I am running Windows 7 64-bit and have a legal copy of Call of Duty (original) that I'd like to play. I installed the game (seemingly without error) and tried to run it, and got a buffer overrun error. I used the Windows 7 troubleshoot feature to run the program using Windows XP compatibility settings, which got me past the buffer overrun error. BUT, prior to game launch, I get a new error that default.cfg cannot be located. I have done research, and the suggestion to make sure that the game is not installed in the root directory is not relevant because I installed to C:\Program Files\Call of Duty. I installed the game from CD's (not a Steam download). Any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

    ]Run the Game as Administrator:
    • Right-click on the game's executable or shortcut and select "Run as administrator." This may help with any permission-related issues.
    []Manually Create default.cfg File:
    • If the default.cfg file is missing or corrupted, you can try creating a new empty default.cfg file in the game's installation directory to see if that helps.
    [
    ]Game Patch or Update:
    • Check if there are any official patches or updates for the game that could potentially fix this issue. You can search for patches specific to the original version of Call of Duty.
  2. Reinstall the Game:
    • As a last resort, consider uninstalling the game completely and reinstalling it to ensure that all game files are installed correctly.

      Additional Suggestions:

      • Make sure your system meets the game's minimum requirements.
      • Disable any unnecessary background applications that might interfere with the game.
      • Check for any conflicting software that might be causing the issue.
Try these steps and see if they help resolve the "default.cfg cannot be located" error. If the issue persists, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
