Recently Windows 7 wants to format any FAT and FAT32 USB thumb drives or SD cards when they are put in. It wont format to FAT and wont show the files on them either. There seems to be nothing wrong with the thumb drives themselves because they are read on other computers. It read them about a month and a half ago with no problem and I haven't installed anything in that time. System restore didn't help either. As well as disk management and other solutions I looked up did not help.

Any help please.

It seems like your Windows 7 system is experiencing an issue where it wants to format any FAT and FAT32 USB thumb drives or SD cards when they are inserted, even though there doesn't seem to be an issue with the drives themselves. This behavior can be frustrating, especially when the same drives work fine on other computers. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue: 1. Check Device Manager: - Open Device Manager by pressing Windows Key + X and selecting Device Manager. - Look for any exclamation marks or error messages next to USB controllers or disk drives. If you see any errors, try updating or reinstalling the drivers. 2. Update USB Drivers: - Right-click on the USB device...

If you see any errors, try updating or reinstalling the drivers. 2. Update USB Drivers: - Right-click on the USB device in Device Manager and select Update Driver Software to ensure you have the latest drivers installed. 3. Check USB Port: - Try using different USB ports on your computer to see if the issue persists. 4. Disable AutoPlay: - Sometimes, AutoPlay settings can cause issues with external drives. Disable AutoPlay for removable drives and check if the problem is resolved. 5. Run Hardware Troubleshooter: - Open Control Panel, go to Troubleshooting, and run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter. It can help identify and fix common hardware issues. 6. Check for System File Corruption: - Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command sfc /scannow to check for any corrupted system files. 7. Update Windows: - Make sure your Windows 7 system is up to date with the latest updates. Sometimes, updates include fixes for such issues. 8. Scan for Malware: - Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to check for any malware that could be causing the problem. 9. Check Group Policy Settings: - There could be a Group Policy setting causing this behavior. Check the policies related to removable storage devices. 10. Third-Party Tool Inspection: - If you have any third-party disk management or security software installed, consider temporarily disabling them to see if they are causing the issue. By trying these troubleshooting steps, you may be able to identify the root cause of the issue and resolve the problem with Windows 7 wanting to format FAT and FAT32 USB thumb drives or SD cards unnecessarily. If none of these solutions work, it might be necessary to consult with a professional technician or Microsoft support for further assistance.
