I recently bought a new netbook that came with Windows 7 Starter installed. I want to be able to type in Chinese and Japanese. Is that something that the Starter edition can do or do I need the full version? Also is it even advisable to install full Windows 7 on a netbook?

Thanks.

Windows 7 Starter Edition, unfortunately, does not include multilingual support for East Asian languages like Chinese and Japanese out of the box. You would typically need to upgrade to a higher edition of Windows 7, like Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate, to enable this feature. However, there are ways to add support for Chinese and Japanese input on Windows 7 Starter Edition by installing additional language packs or input methods. Here are some steps you can take: 1. Language Packs: Language packs can be installed to add display languages, including East Asian languages. However, this feature may not be available in Windows 7 Starter Edition. 2. Microsoft IME: You may be able to install the Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME) for Chinese and Japanese input. This tool allows you to type in different languages using the standard QWERTY keyboard. It's generally possible to upgrade a netbook from Windows 7 Starter Edition to a higher edition like Windows 7 Home Premium if your netbook meets the system requirements. However, it's essential to consider the performance impact of running a more feature-rich version of Windows on a netbook, as they typically have limited resources compared to standard laptops or desktop computers. Here are some factors to consider before upgrading: - Performance: Higher editions of Windows 7 may require more system resources, which could potentially slow down a netbook. - Storage: Upgrading to a higher edition may consume more storage space on your netbook. - Compatibility: Ensure that all your device drivers and software are compatible with the higher edition of Windows 7. If you find that the performance of the netbook is acceptable after upgrading, and if you need the additional features provided by a higher edition, upgrading to a version of Windows 7 with built-in East Asian language support could be a viable option. Before proceeding with any upgrade, make sure to back up your important data to prevent any loss during the upgrade process.
