Windows 7 Cannot change window focus in 7

This morning I became unable to switch the focus of my window. When I am in Mozilla, I can use the mouse as normal but I cannot use my taskbar, start button or another program (with the mouse) even if I alt-tab into it. If I close mozilla, then sometimes I can access my desktop with the mouse but not the taskbar. The windows button still works properly and when I alt-tab into another program, I can use the keyboard to navigate, but not the mouse. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Toshiba Laptop
3 GB Ram
2-core 1.6 Ghz
Windows 7, latest updates

    ]Check for Windows Updates:
    • Ensure that your Windows 7 system is up to date with the latest updates. Sometimes, updates can resolve issues related to system stability.
    []Perform a System Check:
    • Run the System File Checker tool to scan for and restore corrupted system files. Open a command prompt as an administrator and run the command:
      Code:
       sfc /scannow
    [
    ]Check for Mouse Settings:
    • Verify the mouse settings in the Control Panel. Ensure that the mouse settings are configured correctly, such as button configurations and pointer speed.
    []Update Mouse Drivers:
    • Update the mouse drivers to the latest version. You can do this through the Device Manager by locating the mouse device and choosing to update the driver software.
    [
    ]Check for Third-Party Software Interference:
    • Disable or uninstall any third-party software that might be interfering with mouse control or window focus.
    []Check Mozilla Firefox Settings:
    • Check Mozilla Firefox settings and add-ons for any configurations that might be affecting mouse control. You can also try running Firefox in safe mode.
    [
    ]Create a New User Account:
    • Create a new user account on your Windows system and see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is user-specific.
  2. System Restore:
    • If you recently installed new software or made significant changes, consider performing a system restore to a point before the issue started.

      Additional Considerations:

      • The specifications of your Toshiba laptop (3 GB RAM, 2-core 1.6 GHz) are on the lower side for Windows 7. Consider closing any unnecessary applications to free up system resources.
      • Windows 7 is no longer receiving security updates from Microsoft. It is recommended to upgrade to a newer, supported version of Windows for better security and compatibility.
Try these steps and let me know if any of them help in resolving the issue you are facing with window focus and mouse control on your Windows 7 system.
