Out of nowhere (so without any sudden update or anything) my brightness fader stopped working. I can still slide it but it does not actually change the brightness. I need my laptop for work and without any other laptop to work on, this really gives me a headache to work with.

I tried updating my screen adaptors, but it does not change a thing. Somebody on youtube said I had "to activate Windows and update device drive software. Install device driver software for the device 'Intel Management Engine Interface'." But I have no idea how to do that. I have exactly the same problem as him though so if this worked for him I would like to try this solution.
(the video is , I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post youtube vids here)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

I'd wager you have adaptive brightness enabled.
  • Open 'Control Panel'
  • Click on 'Power Options'
  • Click on 'Change plan settings' next to your currently selected power plan
  • Click on 'Change advanced power settings'
  • Expand Display
  • Expand 'Enable adaptive brightness'
  • Turn them both off

Seems like both are already turned off :s

Have you tried enabling, logging out and back in. Then disable and see if brightness works as it should.

Logging in and out didn't work, but restarting did! I don't know if it was the enabling and disabling of the adaptive brightness or that I had to update the screen adaptor intel, but it suddenly worked :)

Thank you both so much!
