I started to use Windows 7 just last week, before that I had been using XP Pro for years, last year I bought Sarotech multimedia hdd enclosure, I shared some folder in windows to use for playing audio and video with the Sarotech player using crossover lan cable whitout any problems.
Since I installed windows 7 I have not been able to see shared folders within the enclosure.
I'm able to ping the enclosure successfully in command promt and I can see shared folder on my laptop through wireless connection, but I don´t know why I can't see shared folders throug the Lan connection.

Obviously I'm doing something wrong here, but this was no problem in winxp so this should not be a more problem in win7.

Solution
It seems like you are experiencing issues accessing shared folders within a Sarotech multimedia HDD enclosure after switching from Windows XP to Windows 7. Since you can ping the enclosure successfully and access the shared folders via wireless connection but not the LAN connection, there might be some settings that need adjustment to enable access over the LAN. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:
  1. Check Network Discovery Settings:
    • Make sure Network Discovery is turned on. To do this:
      • Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center.
      • Click on Change advanced sharing settings.
      • Ensure that Network Discovery is set to "Turn on network discovery".
      • Also, check that File and Printer...

      • Click on Change advanced sharing settings.
      • Ensure that Network Discovery is set to "Turn on network discovery".
      • Also, check that File and Printer Sharing is enabled.
    []Adjust Sharing Settings:
    • Verify that the shared folders on the HDD enclosure are set up for sharing.
      • Right-click on the folders you want to share, go to Properties, and then the Sharing tab.
      • Make sure the folders are shared with the appropriate permissions for the LAN network.

    ]Check Firewall Settings:
    • Windows 7 has a built-in firewall that may block network access. Temporarily disable the firewall to see if it resolves the issue. If it does, you can create exceptions for file sharing.
    []Workgroup Configuration:
    • Ensure that both your Windows 7 PC and the Sarotech HDD enclosure are in the same workgroup. To check and change the workgroup:
      • Right-click on Computer, select Properties, then click on "Change settings" next to the computer name.
      • Under the Computer Name tab, click on Change and ensure that the workgroup name is the same for both devices.

    ]Update Network Drivers:
    • Make sure your network drivers on the Windows 7 PC are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause network connectivity issues.
  2. Access Shared Folders via IP Address:
    • Try accessing the shared folders on the Sarotech HDD enclosure using its IP address directly. In File Explorer, enter the IP address in the address bar: \\IP_address. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot the issue and potentially regain access to the shared folders on the Sarotech multimedia HDD enclosure over the LAN connection. If you encounter any specific error messages during this process, please provide them for further assistance.
