64-bit Win 7 Home Premium, workgroup pc (not domain).

What are the problems/ramifications of changing a Computer Name? For example, how does windows handle existing shares?

    Thanks --David

    No issue.
You should still be able to use the network browser service to find / locate the share(s) on that machine from another, given that you know the new name.
The only problem you'll have is if you've mapped network drives using UNC (Universal Naming Convention) rather than an IP address. Those you'll have to remap.
