Windows 8 Connecting Automatically to WIFI that is secure

I wonder if anyone can help me, I have just bought a windows 8 phone. It automatically connected to my wifi without entering a password, even though it is a secure connection. Would WIFI sense have picked up that I have a Microsoft Surface that is connected to my wifi? I cannot seem to find an answer online. Thanks in advance

I am not familiar with Windows phones (never used one) but it may work like Win 8 computers. Your Surface runs Win 8 and if you login to both your Surface and your phone using your MS Account then your router PW was one of the many settings that were transferred. At least that's the way it works with Win 8 computers so it may work the same way with your phone.

Think i have just worked it out, could it be that the WIFI is stored on the sim card that I have used on my old phone?
